I 'auditioned' to sew on Sew-vivor last week, and though I didn't make the top 10 (I'll be ready for you next year!), I thought it would be fun to sew along! Plus I reeeally needed a new diaper bag. We grew out of the old one long ago and we're busting out the seams.
This week's challenge: EMERALD!
Pantone's 2013 Color of the Year.
So here is my emerald lining!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I drafted this up without a pattern and it turned out a little bigger than I envisioned, so now its practically a weekender, but I've always wanted a Mary Poppins bag! You know, one that is big enough to fit everything and the baby inside, haha.
Man, I hate piping. But I keep crawling back to it.
As much as I wanted
incorporate matchy prints for the piping and details, I decided to keep
the outside uni-print to make it look as expensive and least 'crafty' as
possible.
This bag has some super tough interfacing and a wood board in the bottom with some purse feet drilled in. Its pretty much a weapon now. I feel confident about being able to knock someone out with it.
I think the bow keeps it from looking too "old lady".
I love working with upholstery
fabric for its weight and
durability, and I just can't get enough of this romantic floral! (In
actuality, I still have yards and yards of this leftover from my maternity
dress. How did I so vastly over-estimate?! Maybe I was envisioning a
much larger belly? Pregnant women never think rationally.) So now I have a matching preggo dress and wallet, haha!

Wow! That is a big bag. It turned out great.
HUGE! Jason kept commenting on its size throughout the day. I think my favorite was, 'You know how celebrities carry around their little dog in their purse? You could hide a baby St. Bernard in that bag'. And thank you! It was your messenger bag post that inspired me!
That ability to knock people out will come in handy on the Boston subway.
