Ode to Jini
One of my best friends got married last month!
We met doing the Hill Cumorah pageant, and were next-door roommates for a while after that. Jini made me do crazy things with her like ride motorcycles and make bets where the first girl to get a boyfriend won a pair of Victoria Secret panties, and in the name of friendship, I'm going to overlook the fact that she kissed my brother.
And if you also know Jini, you know she's completely the kind of person that would serve her guests at her own wedding! She let me sew up some aprons for her and her man in their stunning "A Moment in Time" wedding!
Oh Jini, you were the most beautiful bride! Cheers to the happy couple! Let's do lunch next week!

Look for the Emerald Lining
I 'auditioned' to sew on Sew-vivor last week, and though I didn't make the top 10 (I'll be ready for you next year!), I thought it would be fun to sew along! Plus I reeeally needed a new diaper bag. We grew out of the old one long ago and we're busting out the seams.
This week's challenge: EMERALD!
Pantone's 2013 Color of the Year.
So here is my emerald lining!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I drafted this up without a pattern and it turned out a little bigger than I envisioned, so now its practically a weekender, but I've always wanted a Mary Poppins bag! You know, one that is big enough to fit everything and the baby inside, haha.
Man, I hate piping. But I keep crawling back to it.
As much as I wanted
incorporate matchy prints for the piping and details, I decided to keep
the outside uni-print to make it look as expensive and least 'crafty' as
possible.
This bag has some super tough interfacing and a wood board in the bottom with some purse feet drilled in. Its pretty much a weapon now. I feel confident about being able to knock someone out with it.
I think the bow keeps it from looking too "old lady".
I love working with upholstery
fabric for its weight and
durability, and I just can't get enough of this romantic floral! (In
actuality, I still have yards and yards of this leftover from my maternity
dress. How did I so vastly over-estimate?! Maybe I was envisioning a
much larger belly? Pregnant women never think rationally.) So now I have a matching preggo dress and wallet, haha!

A Walker and a Talker
The Millar boys have been all about milestones lately! Link says a new word every day! The kid who only said three words last month now has a list that includes: mommy, dada, ball, hat, eyes, apple, Blue's Clues, cheese (for the camera!) before cheese (the food), juice, bye, see ya, baby, sweep, poop, banana, hot, chair, paint, teeth, please, and my favorite: THANK YOU!
And not to upstaged by his brother, Baby Dean busted out the steps this week! Four steps in a row yesterday, eight this morning, and he's getting braver by the minute.
We can't wait to show off our boys to all our family in 2 weeks! Its almost WEDDING time!

Made in Jade
Wedding season has been GREAT this year! I've had a handful of
weddings to sew for, and have kept busy most every night with something
lovely to sew. I've sewn 16 different wedding outfits/articles in two months! One of my favorites was this dress for my dearest
friend, Natalie, who is attending a wedding next week. She sent me this
picture with her measurements and let me completely surprise her!

Because I really wanted to try doing some draping, I decided this dress was the last straw, and I finally bought myself an adjustable dress form, so that without a pattern, I could manipulate the fabric to look how I wanted on a dress form exactly my client's measurements.
I was SO happy with the way it turned out!! Especially for being so last-minute! This basically HAD to be a 2-nighter.
Natalie should get it on Tuesday and the wedding is next weekend, so here's to hoping it fits!
I'm getting so revved up for Prom season!
